Happiness is something we can work towards. Important is to focus on things that are relevant and meaningful to us. Much time gets lost doing things that do not seem relevant or meaningful. We rush here and there, have agendas filled to the brim, and cram activity into every minute. That in itself is not the worst part. Worse is usually that many people think they know what they are doing all this for, but that this may just be at the surface.
Deep down we all can have a sense why we do what we do, and it is important to reduce stress and keep us balanced. Above all, it helps us make better decisions in everyday life. Our needs, values, and aspirations are vital because they usually do not change much over time and point us towards the things that are relevant and meaningful to us. Nonetheless, many people are too scared to go there and find out about them. But this makes it also harder to find happiness in everyday life. After all, motivation, energy and initiative and greater if you pursue an activity that is aligned with your needs, values, and aspirations, your basic parameters.
How do you find these basic parameters? It helps to look back at past experiences and identify those that led to positive feelings. In this sense, it is also important to keep in mind that that is often the little things that can be important. You may value doing things in certain ways or interacting with people in your unique way. This can determine whether a day at work is a good or not so good experience. Happiness is not a constant, but we can have more of it by doing and saying the right things. Yet what is right does not necessarily depend on what is expected of you. It needs to align with your needs, values, and aspirations. Caring about other people can be one of these values.
Particularly when the world around you is very hectic, it helps to take a step back, connect with yourself, and observe the world. Chaos and stress often pull us away from ourselves. However, connecting with yourself means feeling less stress and more of the authentic you. To experience happiness, you need to connect with yourself. And, connecting with yourself means openness, being receptiveness to the universe of information inside of you, be it in the form of feelings, emotions, thoughts, sensations, perceptions, and so on. At first, this may be overwhelming. However, a therapist can help you on this journey. After all, there is only you to discover, and on a deeper level, you are already familiar with yourself. Feeling this constant part of you can bring greater happiness and help you survive and succeed in a hectic world.
